Introducing the new Brownfield Land Register overlay

Brownfield land is an area of land or premises that has been previously used but has subsequently become vacant, derelict or contaminated. ​

Building on brownfield land directly reduces the amount of countryside that's lost to development, meaning more green spaces and more space for nature to thrive. Regenerating and renovating brownfield land can breathe new life into areas most in need.​

How the Brownfield Land Register overlay will help you

Being able to identify sites that are on the Brownfield Land Register easily will help you find sites that are ideal for housing and redevelopment. There are some benefits in targetting these Brownfield Land sites such as:

• Planning permission could be easier to gain due to the land having been built on before.
• The infrastructure is often already in place on a brownfield land site.
• Finding Brownfield land sites that are likely to be caught up in the spreading of towns and cities can create excellent opportunities for development.​

How to use it

Simply select the Location Analysis tool in the top right of the Nimbus Maps app, then select the Brownfield Land Register overlay from the Technical dropdown menu.

The brown shading indicates the location of the brownfield site.
